Jemma Andrew-Adiamah was kind enough to write this for us for her own blog Celery & Cupcakes, we love the ideas she’s come up with!
Stuck for ideas for what to serve your guests at your next party or get together? These healthy canapé ideas are so effortless and quick to make that you'll be able to put your feet up as you wait for your guests to arrive rather than getting stressed out in the kitchen.
Figs are the prettiest of fruits and I always get excited when they come back in season each year. As a fruit, they pair so well with savoury flavours and I love that sweet and salty flavour combination. The creamy and salty goat’s cheese topped with basil really bring the figs to life and the drizzle of honey over the top brings out the sweetness of the fruit.
Even for those who aren’t overly confident in the kitchen, these are incredibly easy to make, especially because I used Nairn’s Organic Super Seeded Oatcakes for the base. These are a great ingredient to use to support Organic September, a month-long celebration highlighting organic produce and the benefits of including it in your lifestyle. What I love about these super seeded oatcakes is that they are packed with fibre, contain no added sugar and include a lovely mix of flaxseed, sunflower and chia seeds, making them a great healthy alternative for my healthier party canapés.
Nairn’s stock a wide range of organic oat-based products from oatcakes to flatbreads and sweet biscuits – which have actually 40% less sugar than the average high street biscuit! I’m a massive fan of their oatcakes and often add them to snack plates and cheese boards as an option.

When I think of canapés, smoked salmon always springs to mind. It just screams luxury to me and it’s definitely something that I would serve at a party if I was throwing one. Salmon and avocado are one of my favourite food combinations and often pair them with cherry tomatoes. In this instance, I opted for marinated tomatoes to take things up a level that works well with the nutty Organic Oatcakes.
