Organic September 2018 will soon be upon us, and we’re on a mission to raise awareness for the natural goodness of organic oats! Organised by the Soil Association, Organic September is the UK’s biggest annual campaign to help boost the profile of organic produce. Nairn’s care passionately about the environment and our diverse range has something for everyone including two organic products.
Why choose organic?
Organic produce is grown to exacting standards and truly works with nature as nature intended. It contains no artificial additives or preservatives, and has been treated with far fewer pesticides than non-organic alternatives. Did you know that Organic producers are limited to a very small number of pesticides, insecticides and fertilisers with ingredients derived from only natural sources? That means absolutely nothing man-made or synthetic…..
Organic products also have to be free from GM ingredients and adhere to rigid guidelines set by European law that farmers must stick to during production. Farms that produce organic foods are inspected at least once every year to ensure these rules are followed, so when you buy organic you know you’re getting your produce from a trusted source.
What are organic oats?
It’ll come as no surprise that, as oats are at the heart of everything we do, Nairn’s are a supporter of organic oats so that we can provide a choice to our customers – the wholegrain oats in our Organic Oatcakes and Super Seeded Organic Oatcakes are grown without the use of insecticides and pesticides. This allows the crop to thrive naturally and also helps encourage soil fertility. With no added sugar or hydrogenated fats, as well as no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, you get a snack that’s simple, natural, delicious – it’s good for you AND good for the environment too!
Our organic oatcakes are made to a wheat-free recipe and make for a great alternative to bread. They’re vegan, and they also use environmentally-friendly cartons made from materials sourced from sustainable forests.
Organic oats recipes for breakfast, lunch or dinner
Whether you’re feeling a little peckish after a morning gym session, or a long day at work, Nairn’s Organic Oatcakes make the perfect base for your organic snack. Our classic Organic Oatcakes lend to any type of flavour – sweet, salty or spicy! If you only have a few minutes to spare in a morning, try the most simple of breakfasts by topping them with peanut butter, banana slices and coconut shavings. For a mid-morning sweet treat, go for a layer of chocolate & hazelnut spread topped with fresh strawberries and chia seeds. For lunch, enjoy alongside your favourite salad or with whatever you’d normally put in a sandwich generously dolloped on top!
Organic oatcakes are perfect for creating unique party canapes. Why not try some of our favourite toppings for a delicious array of pre-dinner nibbles? Remember to look for the Soil Association’s organic logo when sourcing your ingredients for these:
Berry and superfood jam, topped with fresh pomegranate
Whipped cream and caramelised bananas
Cheese, apple and chutney
Fresh prawns with chilli cream and spring onion
Roasted peppers, grilled cheese and pesto
Of course, if you’re looking for some easy comfort food, you can’t go wrong with a few Super Seeded Organic Oatcakes and a hearty bowl of your favourite soup!

Take part in Organic September
Why not try switching to organic this September and look for products manufactured by organic farmers. Many organic products have similar recommended retail prices to non-organic foods, and with organic farming continuing to thrive, it’s easier than ever to find offers in your local supermarket or health food store.
As more of us choose to buy organic, more organic farms will crop up to meet the demand. In turn, this will allow for more of us to enjoy foods produced with fewer additives and higher standards of cultivation. A few simple swaps to your usual purchases really can make all the difference!
On Saturday 15th September, farmers and independent retailers will dedicate a day to promoting organic. If you’re interested in - or have felt the benefits of - eating organic, help raise awareness for #organicseptember and share your story with Nairn’s.
